UFC 130 Odds, Fight Predictions, Date & Fight Card
After the largest Mixed Martial Arts event in history took place last month, ZUFFA LLC. and Dana White follow up with UFC 130 live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, May 28th. All of the UFC Betting action can be seen live on Pay-Per-View starting at 9:00 ET.
Lightweight Championship Bout: Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (13-1-1) vs. Gray “The Bully” Maynard (11-0-1, 1 NC)
The first time these two fought, Gray Maynard (+115) scored a unanimous decision in April of 2008. Since, Frankie Edgar (-145) reeled off five straight MMA betting victories, including back to back wins over former lightweight champion B.J. Penn, and Maynard remained undefeated. These two wrestlers did battle at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day, but after a five round war, the fight ended in a split decision draw. Now the score will be settled on May 28th with the belt on the line. Expect even more action this time around, as well as a winner, but don’t be surprised if the fight goes to the judges after another 25 minute brawl.
Prediction: Maynard via Decision (unanimous)
Light Heavyweight Bout: Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (31-8) vs. Matt “The Hammer” Hamill (11-2)
Rampage Jackson (-280) was originally set to face Thiago Silva, but after a back injury forced him out of the contest, Matt Hamill (+220) was billed as Jackson’s replacement. Both are skilled wrestlers, but Jackson’s heavy hands and overall tenacity overshadow the wins to Hamill’s credit. Rampage’s 14 career knockouts give him the edge over The Hammer, and entering May 28th having last defeated former champion Lyoto Machida, the momentum is fully in Jackson’s corner.
Prediction: Jackson via KO (2nd round)

Heavyweight Bout: Frank Mir (14-5) vs. Roy “Big Country” Nelson (16-4)
Since winning the Ultimate Fighter Season 10 MMA betting tournament, Roy Nelson’s (-115) sole loss in the UFC has come against top contender Junior Dos Santos. Nelson’s large frame makes it difficult for opponents on the ground, plus Big Country has heavy hands to go along with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. The problem: Frank Mir (-115) has the same weapons and is more battle tested with victories over former champion Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cro Cop. This fight is a toss-up that could easily go either way, unless someone’s gas tank hits empty.
Prediction: Nelson via TKO (strikes)

Heavyweight Bout: Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve (24-4) vs. Travis “Hapa” Browne (10-0-1)
Stefan Struve’s 6-foot-11 frame has caused problems for opponents both standing and on the ground. The Swedish kickboxer has shown he can finish fights with his hands and via submission while taking plenty of punishment along the way. Browne, while owning a BJJ purple belt, is known for his heavy hands and knock out power. For proof, just consider the fact that eight of his ten victories have been KO’s. This MMA betting contest will not see the judge’s scorecards.
Prediction: Brown via KO (1st round)

Middleweight Bout: Brian “The All American” Stann (10-3) vs. Jorge Santiago (23-8)
Since leaving the UFC with a 1-2 record, Jorge Santiago (-110) has reeled off 11 wins in his last 12 fights leading up to his return to the promotion. Though known as a Muay Thai fighter, Santiago also holds a BJJ Black Belt and many submission victories to his name. Stann (-120), on the other hand, brings raw power and vicious hands that have scored seven wins by knockout to just one by submission (two via decision). Five of Santiago’s eight losses have come by KO, and it could be six of nine after UFC 130.
Prediction: Stann via TKO (1st Round).

Featherweight Championship bout: Mark Hominick (+275) vs. Jose Aldo (-450)
As a native of Ontario, Canada, Hominick (20-8) will have the crowd on his side in this matchup. He has been able to get a shot at the title with five straight victories. In January, the 28-year-old Hominick defeated George Roop in a title eliminator match. His style is based on elements of kickboxing and Muay Thai. Aldo (18-1) will be making his UFC debut in this bout. The 24-year-old Brazilian was the World Extreme Cagefighting Featherweight champion when WEC was merged into the UFC last year. In the transition, he was declared as the first UFC Featherweight champion. Aldo’s fighting style is based on Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The favorite wins again in this bout.
Light Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture (+225) vs. Lyoto Machida (-350)
Couture (19-10) has won his last three fights heading into this battle. The UFC legend stopped former boxer James Toney in his most recent bout last August. At the age of 47, Couture is trying to recapture some of his past glory that has enabled him to be a five-time UFC champion in two weight classifications. He is set to tie Matt Hughes for most all-time UFC fights with 24. Couture has a pretty basic style in the cage that is based on boxing and wrestling. Like Couture, Machida (16-2) is a former UFC Lightweight champion. The 32-year-old Brazilian held a perfect MMA record until losing both of his outings in 2010. He fell to Quinton Jackson at UFC 123 in his most recent effort. Machida attacks his foes with elements of Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The younger fighter gains the edge in this matchup.
Lightweight bout: Ben Henderson (-115) vs. Mark Bocek (-115)
Henderson (12-2) is another WEC transplant. The 27-year-old American lost his last fight to Anthony Pettis last December. Henderson is influenced in the cage by wrestling and Tae Kwon Do. Bocek (9-3) will be eager to fight in his hometown at UFC 129. The 29-year-old will be making his eighth appearance at a UFC event. His style is based on elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kempo. In a tight bout, Bocek delights the fans with a victory.
UFC 118 Predictions – Vegas Odds
The Ultimate Fighting Championships will hold its first major event in Boston later this month. UFC 118 will be held at the TD Garden on August 28th. A Lightweight Championship battle headlines the four bouts on the main card.
1. Lightweight Championship bout: Frank Edgar (+250) vs. B.J. Penn (-350)
In the main event, a championship will be at stake. Despite winning the title from Penn is his last outing at UFC 112 in April, Edgar (12-1 MMA record) is the underdog in the rematch. The 28-year-old is a former college wrestler. He also trains in boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Edgar made his pro MMA debut in 2005. He joined the UFC in 2007. Edgar’s lone MMA defeat was against Gray Maynard in 2008. Penn (15-6-1) won the UFC Lightweight title in early 2008. He was able to successfully defend his belt on three occasions before falling to Edgar. The 31-year-old has also been a UFC Welterweight champion in his MMA career. Penn became an MMA pro in 2001. With revenge as some motivation, Penn regains the title in this one.
2. Heavyweight bout: James Toney (+425) vs. Randy Couture (-650)
Toney will make his MMA debut in a big way against UFC legend Couture. The 41-year-old Toney is one of the more notable boxers to make the transition into UFC. He is the current IBA Heavyweight belt holder and has posted a 72-6-3 record in the ring as a pro. Roy Jones Jr. (loss) and Evander Holyfield (win) are among the opponents that Toney has faced in his boxing career. Couture (18-10) won his last bout against Mark Coleman at UFC 109 in February. At 47, the UFC Hall of Famer is still a headline attraction even though he hasn’t held a title belt since 2007. Couture made the transition into MMA after being a college wrestler at Oklahoma State. He made his pro MMA debut in 1997. Couture captured his first UFC title in 2000. Out of his element, Toney will need to get some more experience in the MMA before he can handle a fighter of Couture’s ability.
3. Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard (+115) vs. Kenny Florian (-145)
The winner of this battle will become the #1 contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Maynard (9-0) is on the rise in the UFC ranks. He pulled out a split decision against Nate Diaz in his last fight in February. The 31-year-old was a college wrestling star at Michigan State. Florian (14-4) has come up short in his two bids to win a UFC Lightweight title. He fell to Sean Sherk (2006) and Penn (2009) in his two career championship matches. The 34-year-old has elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai in his fighting style. Maynard pulls the slight upset in this contest.
4. Middleweight bout: Rousimar Palhares (+190) vs. Nate Marquardt (-240)
Palhares (11-2) defeated Tomasz Drwal in his last effort at UFC 111 in March. However, the 30-year-old was suspended for 90 days after the match for failing to let go of a submission hold in the proper amount of time. Marquardt (29-9-2) dropped his last outing against Chael Sonnen in February at UFC 109. In his most significant fight in the UFC, the 31-year-old Marquardt fell to Anderson Silva in a Middleweight Championship match in 2007. The favorite prevails in this matchup.
5. Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis (+160) vs. Nate Diaz (-200)
After losing two straight fights, Davis (17-6) rebounded to defeat Jonathan Goulet at UFC 113 in May. The 36-year-old made his pro MMA debut in 2003. Davis made the transition to MMA after being a pro boxer. Diaz (12-5) has lost three of his five fights. The 25-year-old was able to stop Rory Markham in his last outing at UFC 111 in March. In this fight, the younger favorite emerges as the victor.
6. Lightweight bout: Terry Etim (+120) vs. Joe Lauzon (-150)
Etim (14-3) is looking to bounce back from a setback to Rafael dos Anjos in his last bout at UFC 112 in April. The 24-year-old uses elements Muay Thai, Luta Livre and wrestling in his fighting style. Lauzon (18-5) is also trying to get back on the winning track. The 26-year-old fell to Sam Stout at UFC 108 in January. Lauzon’s style is based in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In a tight battle, Lauzon gets the win.
7. Welterweight bout: Greg Soto (+105) vs. Nick Osipczak (-135)
After winning his first seven fights as an MMA pro, Soto (7-1) dropped his UFC debut against Matthew Riddle at UFC 111 in March. He was disqualified in the match for an illegal upkick. Soto has a background in wrestling that has helped him make the transition to MMA. Osipczak (5-1) lost for the first time as a pro to Rick Story at UFC 112 in April in his last outing. The 25-year-old has a fighting style that is based in Shaolin Kung Fu. The underdog gains a victory in this fight.
8. Middleweight bout: Alessio Sakara (+220) vs. Gerald Harris (-300)
Sakara (15-7) has won his last three fights heading into this battle. He stopped James Irvin in his last bout in March. The 28-year-old made the transition to MMA after stepping into the ring for nine fights as a professional boxer. Harris (17-2) has won ten straight fights since his last defeat in 2007. The 30-year-old handled Dave Branch last month at UFC 116. Harris has a background in wrestling. In this matchup, the favorite steps up to win.

In the marquee bout of the evening, Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA record) will try to pull a significant upset. The 33-year-old has posted a 10-2 mark in his last 12 fights to get a crack at the title.
